While You Were Gone

My son Bryan was a US Marine from 2007 – 2011 and was deployed twice to Helmand Province in Afghanistan. That was a very difficult time for me, as I knew he was in harms way for many months on end. There was very little contact which just added to the fear and anxiety. During this time it became clear to me that I could either crumble under the stress or find peace in the midst of these scary circumstances. I chose to search for peace, and found it.

I would like to share some of my writings from that time. Realizations and expressions of emotion allowed me to put even my worst fears in perspective.
